grant me fire

grant me fire

A Poem by dan zayas

the passion to run for miles on end.

to touch the sky at the edge of a cliff.

to feel whatever i missed.

in years placed upon a shelf, they call them

memories.

i cry out to plan a life i've never known.

strapped up bootlaces and started to kick

out the rotted foundation.

to get dirty and rebuild again.

i'm learning to love the process of where i am,

who i trust and let into my life -

i am without a companion

but not without a map.

a compass that may be broken

but i know what direction to go.

so grant me fire so that i can teach

i have karma to burn and places

to see...

people to care for

and lives to reach.

grant me fire

please.
