infinite scale

infinite scale

A Poem by paperflood

A thought today in contemp-
Aleksandr was talking about ecology - the essential relationship between the human species and the earth...

How essential our built world is, the interface through which we understand the world - without shelter our species would in an instant know its frailty - it is our architecture which reinforces the superiority mankind perceives in its own existence - a force field of climactic insulation

Embedded into the crust of the earth is our lens, safe and knowable in its scale - made to match our own

It is the crux, the center-point on the infinite spectrum of scale, the extreme ends in either direction having confronted our kind with the shock of infinite complexity

But a door frame is warmly reassuring. Its bounds are finite - our bodies intuitively register its enclosure

The physical size of the human body is our species' perpetual reference point, pinning us to something tangible in the otherwise evanescent and incomprehensible expanse.
