Be Still and Know

Be Still and Know

A Poem by L

I once heard it said that in the beginning,
before the earth had taken even her first screaming breath,
there was truth.
I heard that the mountains were built upon it
and that is why they hide their faces in the clouds.
I searched for truth once; traveled to the mountains
and wept at their mighty feet,
for I had not the faith to move them.
I had the hands though,
and stone by stone,I brought them down,
and more, and more,
until the earth was mountain and the mountain, sea.
But neither was truth,
and for that I cried and cursed
the very breath that made them to be.
And my shouts, at that moment,
served only to drown out, a certain gentle whisper
that is truth.

Sometimes when we cry and scream its hard to hear the little whispers in the background. Ive also found that secondhand info isnt always the best when looking for the truth, or moving mountains. But maby thats why i like this piece, because its only untill we stop talking and arguing that a whisper of truth can be heard. An epic story with a brilliant meaning. This is truly inspirational.

Very nice write. The poem is very parable-esque, with a very interesting lesson to be learned, and an amiable answer to one of life's biggest question. I look forward to reading more of your writing.

This poem has everything- a journey to truth where the poet moves mountains to find only emptiness and then those little whispers, so quiet they could hardly be noticed at all. This poem has a wonderful visual quality to it, I could see the mountains, join in on the search for truth, understand that it is not always found where it is obvious and no amount of effort (moving the mountain) can guarantee to find it. This is a truly exceptional poem.
