For What it's Worth

For What it's Worth

A Poem by L

How I wish that I could be for you
the faint, gentle breeze
that softly kisses your skin,
tempting a tentative smile
from your heavy heart.
Or be the heat-hardened earth
that soaks up your every terrible tear,
silently bearing the weight of your world.

If I could be
I would be more than
the silent shadow
of shallow promises,
more than the colourful blur
of fast-falling dreams
and I would breathe in
all the dark that deadens your desires
and breathe out a whisper
that rises
until it rings clear
above all the noise
that ever brought you down.

If  I could be, I would be
but I hope that for now,
it's enough for you
just to know that I am.

I love how you use elemental imagery. This is my favorite bit:

"...the heat-hardened earth
that soaks up your every terrible tear,
silently bearing the weight of your world"
