Sonata

Sonata

A Poem by Jamie Wilkinson

Eulogy to a player piano

played only by mice.

Strings twang untuned

as little ones scurry

from A to B flat.

The dusky sonata

of wood-chip cherubs

with wormy tails.

Nestled between keys

dotted with droppings

chirping in C major.

Sharpening yellow teeth

with delicate floral carvings.

"The dusky sonata

I can visualize it, perfectly...the weight of their supple bodies not sufficient enough to trigger a sound. This gives much applause to the diversity of your subject matter. I would have simply written a piece about the piano itself, but your abstract imagination gave this wings....not to mention, wormy tails!

Impressive work, Jamie!
