Aside

A Chapter by Split Voices
"

"

"The thing I hate about it," she said, "is that it’s all left to my imagination."

"I can see that," I responded.

"No. No, you can’t. You can’t imagine what I imagine."

"Okay. Then enlighten me," I said. She considered me for a moment.

"Maybe another time, okay? I don’t want to ruin this night," she said.

"Fine."

"What?"

"No, I’m just curious."

"I gathered as much. Why?"

"Does there have to be a reason for everything?"

"Ironic to ask that, don’t you think? Well, I’d like to think that there is a reason for everything. If it looks like there is no reason, then maybe you just need better tools to figure it out."

"Oh, clearly I am ill-equipped to survey myself."

"I never said that."

"Didn’t need to."

"Come on, don’t do that again. And hey, I can enlighten you in other ways."

"Oh, this should be good."

"It will be."
