Drowning

Does this make sense? Who knows.

Drowning,

We define this as 

"Death by submersion and inhalation of water"

Water,

Is the only medium we can drown in

according to this.

Is it accurate? 

To dictate that one can only drown in a physical substance

Is like claiming that mental illness isn't real.

We can't see it, 

hold it,

touch it,

so it's not there, right?

I drown every day.

I am submerged in conversations,

thoughts, and feelings.

I suffer from the inhalation of sunlight and the ocean air,

the bark on trees, 

oxygen.

Why do we insist on parameters?

Still, words are defined

people are defined. 

I say to hell with parameters.

Let's break down the barriers

Let's fight conforming to the predesignated box.

I really like the first and third stanzas in this poem. The metaphor of drowning in conversations, thoughts and feelings is really interesting, and definitely something I think we can all relate to. The third verse has really beautiful imagery. I really enjoy it.
