One Word

One Word

A Poem by Alexis L. Thompson

One word is all it takes.
Sending me to an unknown place.

A tone in one's voice
or a malicious choice

turns my thoughts away from grace.

Does anyone see my face
as my head and my heart start to race?

Heavy I breathe
while thoughts seem to leave

and I wish this wasn't the case.

Anger and rage build inside of me.
Trying to stop what I'm coming to be.

Blackness is sight.
Darker than night.

Wishing to just be set free.

Open to light that I see.
but also to ruins, debris.

Something I did.
No control, anger hid.

and a loss, so I fall on each knee.

One word is all it takes.
Sending me to an unknown place.

A tone in one's voice
or a malicious choice

turns my thoughts away from grace.
