For Daddy

For Daddy

A Poem by Alexis L. Thompson

The more I grow,

the more you say:

"Don't take my

little girl away."

But I am here

and I won't go.

I promise this.

You must know.

There's no love

like a fathher's love.

It goes to space

and then above.

And yours is

even greater still.

You make my

mountains into hills.

I love the way

you talk to me.

It's not easy

to set me free.

But I am going

nowhere soon.

I'm still in

my small cocoon.

And when I

am a butterfly,

You'll still guide me.

That's no lie.

I want you to

know I love you so

and that I'll

never, ever go.

Happy Valentines

Day, Daddy.

You've guided me

to be just me.

Such a revealing child's love to her Daddy. I have daughters. If you like short poems, I have some on my page, Haikus.
