Long live the Tree

Long live the Tree

A Poem by Alexis L. Thompson

Long live the tree.
Living years past thee.

Doing as expected.
It stays and is protected.

But long live the tree?
It can't get what it needs.

Wise beyond all.
Standing proud and tall.

Yet it cannot go.
No potential can it show.

As it's rooted to the ground
and wants to leap and bound.

So long live the tree
wishing just to be.

No longer stuck.
For just a little luck.

And long lives this tree.
Hoping to be free.

With patients in its leaves.
Longer the tree breathes.
