For Sandy Hook

For Sandy Hook

A Poem by Alexis L. Thompson

Can you imagine
waking up on Christmas day
with gifts under tree?
Toys to love and games to play?

But not one little foot appears
to receive the gifts?
to laugh and smile
and believe magic myths?

Can you imagine
little kids writing to St. Nick?
wishing for their friends back
and parents watching, feeling sick?

These kids are brave
and the parents too.
Kids lost their lives
all as they grew.

Parents and kids awake
on Christmas without them
and wishes for something small.
The wish that should have been.

They wished for their family back.
The students and teachers too.
My wish for Christmas was the same.
A prayer from me to you.

                              You are missed.
