Gluttony

Gluttony

A Poem by Pamcocoa

I wasn’t ready

to take those bites

But I did and the animal inside cried out for more.

I really didn’t need

That extra slice

But I put it on my plate; much more than I could afford

I couldn’t finish it all. So I threw the rest out.

While many are on death's door it's nothing I think about

I call myself a foodie

But is it food that I adore?

Is it the food that I love

Or am I just a food w***e?

The last two lines show the speaker has some self awareness. Too many of those who have compulsions don't have it. Having such knowledge is the first step toward acting on it.
