First Christmas

First Christmas

A Poem by Nina C Palmer
"

In these early months and years of my son's life, I live out the moments of childhood I wished I had. Only now, it is so much more because it is a moment I intentionally give to him and share with him

"

Light shines through the needles of pine,

As he sits with wonder for a time.

He is lost in a moment of sheer delight,

As he ponders an illuminating sight.

His twinkling eyes seem in a trance

By the orbs that dangle from each branch,

And the scent of pine hanging in the air

Interlacing with the hearth's smoky flare,

Adorned with a pine and tinsel bough,

Attended by stockings; empty for now.

And as I look upon his angel face,

It brings me back to a childlike place.

When Christmas was filled with such delight,

So much so, no rest came at night.

What once was lost to younger years

Now revisits with Christmas cheer,

In his smile, in his eyes,

In his laughter of toddler size.

So together we gaze at the lights that shine

And both sit with wonder for a time.

A very good write appreciating this occasion and the toddler gazing in wonder trying to fathom all of that. Happy Holidays...

I have been a closet poet for a very long time, but have always had the desire to be published. Now in my thirties I find myself braver than ever. Not only will I write and share and submit, but a.. more..
