Maiden FairA Poem by Nina C PalmerLove at first sightWas it love at first sight, That eve upon a summer
night? Or perhaps it was just the
risen heat That fell to cool at the
evening’s feet.
Nonetheless, as he
stood there, I felt as if I was a
maiden fair. Perhaps across a
distant land Where such men kissed a
hand.
And into a daydream my
mind went, Because his eyes were
so heaven sent. I could stare into them
for all days, With sweet sighs and a
longing gaze.
His eyes met mine
across a field. None could fathom the
fate they yield . He rose to his feet on a
mighty frame. The flowers spoke and
they said his name.
My heart beat like a
thousand hooves, As sweat trickled down
his bronze grooves. He gazed upon me and
sweetly grinned, And my breath was
caught by the teasing wind.
So shall I be a maiden
fair, To this Adonis with
golden hair, And play a game as old
as time, Until the day I make
him mine?
In a moment I had to
decide, And with such tension I
let out a sigh. He grasped my hand and
kissed it light, And I fell in love at
first sight. © 2014 Nina C PalmerReviews
