With no time to lose, Lucy packed and set off at midnight, with only a torch to lead the way, Rudy reluctantly trailing behind. “Rudy, we must hurry. Who knows how much air is left in the...,” Lucy stopped in mid sentence and listened intently. “Do you think we’re being followed?” Rudy whimpered in disbelief. 7. The following day, a blizzard slowed them down. They sheltered inside a hollow tree. “Oh Rudy, the torch went out. It’s so dark, I can’t see the back of my hands,“ said Lucy with trembling fingers. “Have some bread and butter. I’ll leave some on this boulder as well, so whoever is after us can eat it and not us.” Rudy looked back at the trail, his ears alert. 8. Lucy continued her journey south over the mountains with Rudy trailing behind. On the third day, they had to cross a frozen lake over which the sun would rise the next day. She had almost reached her destination where her stone pendant could capture natural light and recharge itself. “Come on, Rudy, the ice is quite thick. We can’t fall in,” Lucy encouraged, as she stepped onto the frozen lake. A loud crack started from the shore where Lucy spotted a short stranger. The crack spread rapidly and reached Lucy feet. “Rudy, help,” shrieked Lucy as her left leg plunged into the freezing water. Her right leg slipped in shortly after. Lucy was soaked from chest down. © 2012 ShanReviews
