Here's to the OneA Poem by BrittenyA retrospect of crushes throughout a girls lifetimeHere’s to the One Over the years it’s true I’ve written so much to you So in this poem raise a glass And give a toast to days past Here’s to the one Who taught my cheeks to go red Who first occupied my head Chasing me round the playground A place in my heart you have found Here’s to the one That first taught me jokes In my mind jealousy started to poke Taught me that opposites can attract And never learned quite how to act Here’s to the one That taught me rejection Passing notes and asking questions Sadly your soul as given way No longer on this earth can you stay Here’s to the one That filled my teenage dreams We worked closely had a friendship it seems Let me catch a glimpse into a dirty mind But in the end you were always kind Here’s to the ones That were passing creative types The hipster that didn’t by the hype The actor with the dark skin And the popular boy who was “in” Here’s to the one Who was my first high school love Our relationship rocketed high above Until it came crashing back down Differences emotions made me frown Here’s to the one That showed me another side of the world Mixed up my feelings made them swirl We performed together until our last bow I hope nothing but good things come to you now Here’s to the one Who heard my pretty voice Chatting for hours it was my choice Watching films thought you more than a friend The explosive way our friendship did end Here’s to the one That never was Rumors and secretes often buzzed I had known you for such a long time To be more than friends felt like a crime Here’s to the ones The unspoken, forbidden, older and taboo To the famous fantasies I thought were true To the imaginary that made thoughts take flight Too often you fueled this poet’s light Here’s to the one Who opened an unknown door Brought my lonely ship to shore Gave me friends and so much hope Making adulthood sort of dope Here’s to the one The weirdo like me The one who knows this was meant to be For years and years together we stay I love you for the rest of my days © 2020 BrittenyAuthor's Note
