Between You and Me

Between You and Me

A Poem by Paige

Please don't blame me if I'm afraid to be touched,
Because the last man that held me in his arms squeezed too hard.
He broke me into pieces,
And it has taken a lot of glue.
Just between me and you,
I don't think I'll ever recover.
But there will be others,
That will squeeze too hard.
And my broken heart will be whole again,
Only to be broken in new ways.
I am sorry if I am hard to love,
I never wanted to be.
I love too hard,
I fall apart.
These secrets I keep inside,
They bring me to life.
I think I'm ready to be held again,
But that's just between you and me.

This one has the sound of PTSD. Whether or not there was physical violence, the previous relationship appears to have been abusive in some way. I hope the speaker is receiving therapy.
