Like a Lifetime MovieA Poem by Paige
I’m sitting at the kitchen table painting my nails. Mom is in the living room, crying to a Lifetime movie.
It’s like 2007 all over again, except now it’s 2017. And the Lifetime movies have turned into real life. And my mom is happy, and full of life. And I’m new to life, and f*****g up life. Learning how to do life. When your life turns into a Lifetime movie, suddenly
everything is more dramatic. The choices you make mean more, the mistakes you make
take you whole. Lifetime movies are full of sex, so you try it out. You pick a few guys and let them ruin you. You let them under your skin, you let them pass
through you. You don’t realize the impact they make, until you
realize that their affection is fake. You realize that these guys don’t really care. You realize maybe romance only exists in Lifetime
movies. And the drama is just for show, because there is
nothing dramatic about having your heart broken. Because you broke your own heart; and the drama isn’t
what you feel, you feel your earth shattering between your fingers, and the
realization that YOU did this. And like a Lifetime movie I drink all the time. Except
unlike them I don’t sip on wine. I drink on bottles, I drink on beer, until the reality
I see is no longer clear. I try new drugs, I do new things, this is no longer
Lifetime it’s life, And not the type of life you should be living dear. You’re not on screen, and nobody cares. You don’t have an audience to stare and care, You have people lined up to use you while you’re
making mistakes, You have people willing to take and take, but never
give.
It’s 2017, no longer 2007. These Lifetime movies are out of date, Go out and start living. © 2017 Paige |
