Spider In My Room

Spider In My Room

A Poem by K. Carver
"

There was in fact a spider in my room the other night and that's when I wrote this poem. I'd like to say I played on the emotion of fear, but there might have been a few that I didn't even know was there.

"

sitting in my corner
my head on my knees
crying my silent river
and asking him please

the smoke is getting hazy
its getting hard to breathe
then out of no where
the spider spoke to me

he said breathe in
inhale deeply
though i wanted to slow
i would go peacefully

he said come child
i sat still
he crawled out of sight
then i began to feel ill

the little spider bit me
but i never did yell
i went with a smile
cause spiders go to hell

I like this poem. I think the attentive reader will benefit from this poem. The first thing I notice is the smoke, and the sense of desperation. The the spider. It seems certain to me that the creepy crawly is a symbol of death and the smoke, well, that might be carbon monoxide...of course it could just be a mood placement but I don't think so. I think that was creative, the use of symbols, the scene being a metaphor for suicide.

I did notice one apparent typo: "he crawled out of site". I think you mean, "sight."

Yes. Well. Not much to tell, so not much to read. I write poems, mostly. I'm breathing with life. I don't believe that I'm quite successful at either. I do ask one request of anyone who may read this:.. more..
