The Price of a Mystery

The Price of a Mystery

A Poem by Paige

It was how the shadows made the corners fuzzy
And I didn't know what you were doing when I blinked my eyes
How I couldn't talk to you without my mouth forming a smile
You would leave anxiety bubbling in my gut
And my eyes would be stained with romance
You were always "the one more" chapter of my favorite novel before bed
An aching that consumes my better judgement
And as you took your toll I reveled in all the ways you left my body bruised
My mind would thrive in its constant state of confusion
I realized it was impossible to live to see the price tag on loving a mystery
