How High My Shadow Hides

How High My Shadow Hides

A Poem by Paige
"

THoughts, words that came to mind and had to be let out.

"

Our bodies as humans are measured in simple forms of height. Built up by age in inches that lead to feet we are eventually one accumulative “height” that reads on a stick behind our head as we visit the doctor, on our license, or in our mind for trivial reasons. This height is nothing more than a number of our measurements.  The height of us is only how large our outer shell is.

Our shadows are where our true form lies. Shadows are mysterious. They keep hidden in light hours never truly being exposed fully, maybe just a glimpse here and there as we pass under a dark hallway. They may play across our faces as we drive on a sunny day or wave quickly as we pass a store front. Shadows stay fleeting until night descends upon us. As the night falls & our shadows come to dance we are truly I full measurements.

We have all been there. The nights our emotions are fully exposed, you feel like a stranger in your own town. No one knows your heart, no one speaks your true language, and you’re wondering where you must travel to meet your own kind. Your creativity peaks as you do whatever passion you possess in your soul like it’s a fire consuming your world. That is your shadow in full effect. That feeling of over whelming -ness; that feeling that if you are so much larger than the life you’re in.

You see dear friend, our shadows are more than mere height. They grow and change with us every day, minute, second. On our nights of conquests and happiness they are as tall and wide as the sky reaching up to grace the stars and boast their sheer beauty. In our days of doubt and dogged nights our shadows shrink to a small puddle that is melting in its own pity until a high comes through the wind to nourish our ego once again. The little sparks of play in a shadow we see through the day are usually a simple reminder that we still have something bigger than our lives burning inside our souls.

Shadows cannot be measured they are ever changing. They are your soul’s body. They all may seem a little similar, but if you see them all the same I urge to look again. God always look again, your shadow will always have a twinkle in its eye, a smile in its mouth, and a way of hugging your mind to let you know it belongs to you. Your shadow is your soul’s most honest form.

Very nice Paige.
Again you lean to minimize the expression in an attempt to expand understanding. I like the thought of a shadow revealing honesty about the self.
