Draining Beauty

Draining Beauty

A Poem by Patricia
"

Prelude to "A Droughts End"

"

The day's humidity

Is pulled from the colors

Except those rooted deep

Even so, they lie limp

In a depressive state

A heavenly spittle

Steams off the land

Lingers a bit and

Dissipates like a spirit

Trying not to be seen

Cries of disappointment

From the birds as they

Settle back in the arms

Of the despondent trees

The air smells of rot

‘Til the sun burns it away

And all that is left is the scent

Of scorching concrete

And with the last

Of the color

Drained from the stems

Just as their brittle blooms

We dare ask,

“Why?”

Thank you Aruhdass for reading and commenting. :)
We dare ask, Why?
Indeed, we do...but most likely we all know,
and most likely we are all responsible.

Lamenting global warming are you? Sometimes feels like everything is burned away, except the concrete which just absorbs more heat. Too bad we can't just build a big space umbrella to keep us in the shade. I think someone is working on it. We may ask why even though we know the answer.

Humidity can drain the energy from us. We often have humid weather in the uk summer time. Sounds as though your weather across the pond is playing havoc with the plant life too. We have had so much rain here. Dear Pat, lovely to find a post from you. Hope you are keeping well.

Thank you kindly Chris. I am well, thank you, and glad to see you and hope you are well. Hugs!
excellent metaphor here..humidity is so oppressive, like something weighing on our mind...

something that makes us sweat and lose energy.

HI!!! I didn't know you were back, so glad to see you!! I love this poem because it perfectly fits the weather pattern we are experiencing now....damp and dreary....everything form trees to birds to humans are feeling
lethargy, listless, drained, as is nature...especially the "despondent trees" and "steam off the land" I can relate, maybe luckier than other because i am at 2500 feet; still and ll, its sultry....
Lovely images you've created dear P
Warmly, B.

Well firstly, I admit I did go back to reread a droughts end, despite this being a prequel and although it makes sense on its own, it makes way more sense when both are read together.
This is an excellent write of the experience of life, which I was going to call a life experience until I realised it sounded like a soundbite from an interview.
Before pleasure comes pain and not every day is drawn as a hallmark card is the feel I get from this piece, and even the most chirpy of chappies (or chapessies), which must be a word because spellchecker didn't correct it... Or I may have used it before, but anyway, back to the plot... Now, what page of the plot was I on? 😊
Oh yes, I'll have a mochafrappelattecino and an overpriced slice of rocky Road yummyness please.... Oh wait, that is so the wrong script...
Ah, here we are!.. .
This is like what reality is like behind the fake book flaky fakeness of only posting pics of happy shiny new things and living for likes that don't matter to anyone other than people that don't care their fake life is actually faked, which means they are only lying to themselves and should pry themselves away from their screens immediately and go try something zany like REAL LIFE ™ (PATENT PENDING)
It's not an app, or even a new idea, but it does contain likes, but they are not electronic and once you get the hang of it, your face stops hurting from all the practice smiles 😊
I'm sure I've veered off the point many times by now, but I did enjoy this very much and if you see that waitress pass, could you ask her where my cake is! 😊
