Wide-Eyed in the Dead of Night

Wide-Eyed in the Dead of Night

A Poem by Caitlin Nicole
"

Never take the word "paranoia" lightly. It may just leave you "wide-eyed in the dead of night"...

"

Wide-eyed in the dead of night,
Surrounded by
Pallid darkness
Yet still, she's granted sight,
Wide-eyed in the dead of night.

Fear growing,
Like the sun’s awaking light,
That will never
Again be seen
By a girl so shaken

With such fright,
Wide-eyed in the dead of night.

Teeth clenched,
Securing helplessness in bite,
She sits,
She waits,
For his empowering height,
Wide-eyed in the dead of night.

Heart racing,
She shivers,
And can’t part wrong from right,
While so scared,
So lost,
Wide-eyed in the dead of night.

This poem was somewhat inspired by Steven King's The Stand. It was to be as if I were looking at and describing Nadine Cross, but my own emotions were wrapped in the piece as well.

Very well done. Makes you want to wake up even if you aren't sleeping. And I loved that book by the way. One of the few Stephen King novels I could "stand". Pardon the pun. That and "The Dead Zone".

In my times of paranoia, all I have to remember is my guardian angel, and I am quite safe. I call her, and we talk over the phone, and everything is alright once again. If I can't be brave for myself, I can be for her. Great poem though.
