Miles Apart

Miles Apart

A Poem by Lisasview
"

I wrote this poem when I was in my early 20's...In the 70's... Just a few things were changed, with the help of Richard. Rhyming Quatrains and Couplet

"

          Miles Apart....

              Separated by miles
              that keep us apart,
              my heart's
              still holding yours.

              Our love
              lingers-on,
              like the delicate web
              of an evil spider;
              the spider, but a toy
              between us.

              Air hangs heavy
              between our hearts;
              still, longing for
              more time together.

              Yet,
              when I sit alone
              thinking of you,
              your tenderness
              surrounds me
                ... even now.

                 ~~~
The warmth and spirit of a loved one remains with us even after they are long departed. We may not feel their touch any longer but as long as they remain alive in our memory the miles seem just that bit closer. It's a sad piece with your loss, love and acceptance of it here for all to read. Touching poem, Lisa. ⚘
Somehow, a fine poet manages to find gentle words even when they come with sadness: the poem's visual of a woman sat, shoulder's slumped over her heart shows wretchedness and loneliness. That and twenty lines tears, start to finish, surely says more than shows. There's grief here.
"delicate web of an evil spider" Hmmm... How is the spider a toy? Also, curious about your choice to hyphenate lingers-on. I like it; just wondering what made you think to do it.
Thanks for inviting me to your site. I've now read a bunch of your poems, including the two you recommended. Glad I did because I always come away with a better attitude toward humanity when I read a poet who is educated, articulate, and believes that words should actually communicate thoughts and feelings - Ah, then (and even better), the lady has a gift for disciplined verse.
I especially liked the poem above, the "ruby-red" one, and the one about your father. Love & Death are the two great themes - And for me, they are almost always tied together.
Peace & Best Wishes
Love lingers on...after separation by miles...
I loved the imagery in this poem.
Love can be like a spiderweb and yet its memories can be so softly tender and strong...
Such words retain their power always...
You are most welcome, dear Lisa.
This poem spoke to me as I know this feeling, the want and desire to be closer, to feel that person in your arms, to share breaths and not just a moon in the skies where we are. Poetry was a wonderful message board but the touch of her skin on mine was better than any poem. The miles did seem endless, though we did erase them a few times. I have written many poems on the theme of far apart. I loved this Lisa. It was beautiful.
