New Light

New Light

A Poem by Georgia

Do I recognise your face?

I know it from somewhere long ago

My memory never erased the trace

Of the cold hearted love like the winter snow

Your eyes are gleaming like emerald stars

Gone are your worries from years of the past

He’d never reach you now you’re raising the bars

As you found that his love would never last

I once was repulsed by that look in your eye

The strong powered twinkle that pierced the air

Now I see light that brightens the sky

You stood by yourself to fight for what’s fair

I warned you, we warned you, it was too good to be true

But love is blinding and he was a thief

Buying flowers at morning for only you

The lies twisted further and so did my grief

But once made a criminal, two thirds reoffend

And he was never a likely third

He tore you apart, another heart left to mend

And I wondered if you had remembered my word

How strange to see you at this time of year

Never before, so why now could it be?

The memories rocketed like a colourful flare

Bringing all of these feelings back here to me

This wasn’t you, no stealing involved

He drove his way out with no heart left to break

The actions to you made my body go cold

As I lay there alone with a familiar ache

Now years have passed by and you’re sparkling like sunshine

With a brand new love who will treat you right

Maybe to see you was a heavenly sign

That we are okay and we dance in new light
