A Remembrance Day Poem

A Remembrance Day Poem

A Poem by Georgia

In the time happiness flooded the land
The shores were filled with only sand
Then a day came when war broke out
Something the people knew nothing about
The men of the country volunteered
In the early days when nothing was feared
War was told to be full of fun
Ideas soon vanished when they begun
One by one they'd be shot down
A place so full 'came an empty town
More people were needed, forced to join
Taken away at the flip of a coin
So many men, driven to death
Hardly having taken a breath
Years and years of endless war
Yet men were dying, more and more
Then the 11th day, month and hour
A sudden surrender, they'd lost their power
A victory to us through devastation
A cheer but sadness throughout the nation
Then for soldiers with guns and shields
Millions of poppies filled the fields
