Moonlit BayA Poem by Georgia
There's a place I know, so far away,
Where a river runs through a moonlit bay. The grass is soft and the moon brightly shines, And the roses bloom, time after time. If you look to the river, you may just see, A girl in a boat, that girl is me. She may look sad and truly forlorn, For the story I'll tell is why her heart's torn. Once she was happy, with a boy on her side, They were sailing the river, avoiding the tide. Their love was true, great and strong, No imperfections, nothing wrong. Then one day something rocked their boats, The wind blew hard, the oars both broke. They slowly drifted apart from each other, But she kept reaching back for her lover. His face turned around, he saw a new light, So he frantically paddled towards the beautiful sight. He reached it but it was soon taken away, So he paddled back slowly, towards the moonlit bay. The girl by this time, was rowing so fast, With her hands, trying to reach her love from the past. For a moment it seemed, all would be well, As they reached each other, last part to tell. They thought that all would be as before, Then another light shone, one they both saw. He turned around for a moment and froze, At something so good, like a freshly grown rose. Again she saw him paddle away, From the gentle silence of the moonlit bay. She lay down in her boat; a tear ran down her face, As she watched all alone, someone else take her place. There's a place I know, so far away, Where a river runs through, a moonlit bay. © 2013 Georgia |
