Constant

Constant

A Poem by OJ

It was like you threw a switch

Moving me from darkness to light

Flooding the circuit with energy and electricity

Blinding me with a brilliant brightness

From monochrome to Technicolor

It was like you pressed a button

Transforming muffled mumbling to raucous cacophony

But every sound clear, sweet, strong

A thousand twangling instruments

A new, infectious music

It was like you opened a door

Lukewarm tedious tepidity to glacial, sizzling firefrost

Exposed to infinite new sensations

Defenceless against this assault

A riot of consciousness

For a while you blew my fuses

Deafened me

Consumed me

We shared a pandemonium

Stopping the sun.

But slowly, carefully, purposefully

The light dissolved

The sound faded

The impression subsided

It had to

I wept

I smiled

I breathed

But it was never the same again

Changed in the twinkling of an eye

For ever indebted

To the deviation, modulation, innovation
