The three mile walk

The three mile walk

A Poem by outspoken1234
"

"The most painful goodbyes are the ones that are never said and never explained."

"
We walked three miles today
One full of memories
Laughs and tears
Other families walked the same road with us
All with different memories
Some of lose
Some of hope
We walked and walked
Carrying a memory of a deceased preemie
Carrying a preemie survivor
We brought them both to the finish line
The survivor walked across the finish line
The memory was carried across
With tears in our eyes we read the sign up in the air at the end
Reading the words made everything a bit clearer
They read
My mommy carried me
My sissy buried me
But I'm in a better place
Because they both loved me
I love you sissy and mommy
Thank you for walking in my memory
With tears in our eyes we held each other and cried
Not for sorrow but because we could
So many memories were relived
On that three mile walk

I got this inspiration because we walked for my baby sister graces memory in the march of dimes we lost her three years ago and she fought an hour and a half for her life and we walked for my little brother who is honestly a proof miracles do happen. His heart stopped on the operating table but they didn't give up. If they would have he wouldn't be turning two. I wanted to dedicate this to the doctor who delivered my sister he made that sign that inspired this poem.
