After every tough road I've been down its good to know daddy's coming home...

Did you hear the news today?

Mommy smiled her first in a while 

Everything is okay today 

Because daddy comes home today

He went on a long trip

He protected our flag 

Everything is alright

Because daddy comes home today

I failed a test 

Scraped my knee

Had a birthday 

But its all okay 

Because daddy comes home today

We waited Christmas and Easter

We waited day and night

Fall and spring

For the day that is today 

The day daddy comes home

Everything is good

Everything is right

I'm smiling 

Sissy is smiling

Mommy is crying

Because today is the day

Your poem is filled with delightful anticipation. You describe hardships that make the comparison even more desirable, the idea that this one person can change all the frustrations into joy. Altho I've not had this experience myself, your description is so palpable, I can almost feel how it would feel.

Thank you I wrote from a personal experience of when we found out my dad was coming back from his tour. Honestly I can't fit the joy and emotions I felt in this poem. This is just a glimpse of what I could pour into it.
