slimp

slimp

A Poem by Rachel Myers

I had it

I sort of had it

A fist clenched tight

Around a rope

Hanging from a cliff

I was almost to the top

But then I came across

A pair of scissors

That was shiny and new

And I was enthralled

So shiny

So new

That I didn’t notice

How sharp those scissors were

I didn’t even notice

How they cut at the rope

I held

I didn’t notice

How far I fell

When the scissors went

Snip

Snip

Snip

And the rope unraveled

And disintegrated

Then I did notice

And the more I clawed

And clawed

At the Cliffside

To reach the top

It grew taller

It got further away

And around a foot

Up

On the Cliffside

I got stuck

Roots swallowed my feet

And I have not moved since
