"You want some?" I
looked down at the bowl that was being held underneath my nose. The mouth
watering smell of the hot, buttery popcorn filled my nostrils and made my
stomach growl. Without looking at my best friend, I snatched the bowl away and
began, unladylike may I add, gobbling down the popcorn.
"Okay cookie monster, don't
eat your hand." I narrowed my eyes and tried my best to mimic him without
dropping the remains of popcorn that were already in my mouth.
"That's attractive." He rolled his eyes and sat down next to me,
extending his long legs in front of him. I looked at Fisher and couldn't help
but blush as he looked back at me with those big, bright blue eyes. I nervously
looked away, suddenly feeling self-conscience. Fisher always had that affect on
me, unintentionally making me feel scrutinized which made me nervous and blush.
"Why are you so cute
Kas?" He pinched my cheek and pulled his hand away before I had time to
slap it away.
I grabbed the remote and turned up the tv, not wanting to answer or think about
his question. Although Fisher was my best friend, I didn't feel comfortable
being complimented by someone other than Steven. Steven always had a way with
words and constantly found ways to make me blush, making me look like a tomato
on sale at the grocery store.
I wasn't paying attention to the
thriller that was playing on the television as I let my thoughts drift to the
package that was hiding behind my bookcase in my room. The butterflies swarmed
around in my stomach and I felt my face getting warm as I thought about what
was in the package and what it meant.
"Aww, is little Kassie wassie blushing?" He pinched my cheek again
and puckered up his lips, cooing like a baby. I frowned and desperately tried
to turn my face around, annoyed with his his teasing. I grabbed some popcorn
that had mysteriously fallen on strands of my hair and threw them at him,
sticking my tongue out as he quickly released his hold on my cheek.
"How mature." Narrowing his eyes, he turned back to the tv as I sat
there, soothing my poor cheek. I tried focusing my attention towards the scary
movie but as hard as I tried I just couldn't. Thoughts of Steven and the silky,
red material in the package kept coming back.
For awhile now, our relationship
has turned into an intimate one and at first I wasn't comfortable with it but
it's what Steven wanted and I was determined to give him everything he desired.
He found a way into the depths of my heart and made me feel special, warm, and
wanted. I had to keep him around, make him stay and if intimacy is what he
wanted, that's what he was gonna get.
I was startled awake in the middle of the night by the loud thunder and the
heavy rain that was hitting the window pretty hard. I looked to my right to
find Fisher quietly snoring, his chest slowly rising with each breath he took.
I smiled and grabbed a blanket
from my bed to cover him with. It was normal for Fisher to spend the night, he
always did when we had our movie nights. He frowned in his sleep, probably a
bit uncomfortable on the couch that I had in my room but it was slowly replaced
with a tiny smile. I contemplated taking a picture or drawing a very
provocative picture on his face but the screen of my laptop lit up and
distracted me from my devious plan. Quickly making my way to my laptop, I read
the instant message:
Baseball_player17:
Kassie? You there?
I grinned and rapidly replied back before looking at the clock next to it that
read 3:02.
Red_Lipstick16:
Yes (: Why are you up so late?
It didn't take long for him to reply and the smile was back on my face.
Baseball_player17:
I could ask you the same question you bad girl (;
I smirked. Making sure not to wake Fisher up, I grabbed the computer and
carefully sat on the bed, cringing as the springs in the mattress started
squeaking. After I was comfortably settled, I let myself get lost into the
conversation.
Red_Lipstick16:
Who are you? My dad? :p
Baseball_player17:
I could be (; princess :p
Red_Lipstick16:
Okay, ew! Lol.
Baseball_player17:
Too far? Haha
Red_Lipstick16:
Just a bit...cx
Baseball_player17:
Haha...so why are you up? Rain woke you up?
I frowned, how did he know it was raining? I don't think I remembered telling
him...
I scrolled back up and read our previous messages and not once did I mention it
raining. There's that feeling again, something just didn't feel right.
Red_Lipstick16:
How did you know...?

I stared at the screen, emotionless. What just happened? I closed the laptop
and curled into a ball on my bed, drowning in all the thoughts in my head. Did
I do something? Did I say something I wasn't supposed to? Everything was going
well, the conversation was fun, natural. Until I asked how he--
"Kass?" My thoughts were interrupted when my lamp was turned on by a
sleepy and disheveled Fisher who was looking at me with concern. "Are you
having another nightmare?" I nodded my head, "Yes, I'm okay though.
Go back to sleep."
He then made his way towards me
and made me scoot over so he could properly fit. My bed wasn't small so we both
fit without having to pinch or push each other although I still pinched and
pushed out of amusement. We faced each other and listened to the rain falling
onto the roof, without saying a word for what felt like hours until Fisher
spoke, "Wanna talk about it?"
"Not really." He nodded his head and looked away. That's what I loved
about Fisher, he never pushed or pried. He waited. He never asked more than
once either, he figured people would tell him things when they were ready and
that was that. He pulled me in closer and I laid my head on his chest, content
with listening to the steady beat of his heart and the rain outside. I fell
back asleep in no time.
