Red_Lipstick16:
I'm sorry...
My mother always tells me to never give my heart away unless I know for sure
that the person I'm giving it to will never throw it away. I never believed I
would be put in a situation where I'd willingly give it away without a second
thought until now. Steven came into my life, discreetly stole my heart, and I'm
afraid he'll never give it back. I am his and I will never believe that he will
take advantage of the hold he has on me because that's not him.
He said so himself, I am
different than those other girls who go around and catch unknown diseases. I am
his butterfly, pure and innocent he said, just the way he likes it.
"Honey, wake up. It's time for school!" The bright light from the
flaring sun, shone through the curtains of my bedroom, blinded and prevented me
from sleeping comfortably. I covered my face and moaned into my pillow, cursing
the fool who came up with Mondays. Whoever it was probably burned in a pit of
lava for coming up with such a ridiculous plan, I mean, who needs Mondays? The
world would still be spinning perfectly without them so I think we should just
boycott Mondays or sweep it under a rug and forget that it ever existed.
"Honey stop rambling on about Mondays, you're rambling makes you salivate
all over the place and it's unattractive."
"Well good morning to you too mom, I'm glad to know you still have such a
wonderful sense of humor after all these ages." I wiped the totally
nonexistent saliva from my chin and buried myself under all my blankets and
pillows.
"Kassie May Adams! What in the world has gotten into you lately?!" Oh
I don't know, could be the fact that the love of my life is ignoring me because
my brothers are dimwits or it's a Monday. Yeah let's go with the latter.
"It's a Monday and I just really don't feel like going to school today so
how about you let me stay and I'll clean up the whole house for you. Eh...ehhhhh?
C'mon you know you wanna say yes!" She's going to crack in 3...2...
"As tempting as that sounds, education comes first so up, up, up!"
Damn. So close.
She exited the room and left me to wallow in my own miseries. Oh big cheese
from above please let me get through this day unscathed.
Checking my phone for the millionth time did little to take away the frown that
was probably permanently stamped onto my face when I found no new messages yet
again.
"What's wrong buttercup?" Sighing, I turned around to face the
unwanted visitor.
"How many times do I have to tell you Price? Stop calling me buttercup, I
have a name." This is just what I needed; I seriously have no time for
stupid, ignorant jocks.
"Yo Josiah! Over here bro." A group of football players were
clustered together and leaning against the lockers in the junior hallway
looking in our direction. Among them was my best friend Fisher, the first
sophomore quarterback of the team, with that legendary smirk on his face that
kept his true self hidden. Of course I could see through it because I've known
the guy since he peed on my face when we were babies, I swear we have been
inseparable since then.
Josiah waved and turned back around to face me. "You gonna tell me what
happened or am I just gonna have to ask Fisher?"
I was about to reply with a witty comment when my phone vibrated causing me to
jump and quickly look at the screen. The hopeful feeling in the pit of my
stomach intensified when I saw who the message was from.
"I'd love to stay and chat but I gotta go, bye Price!" I sped down
the hallway and headed towards the exit before he could stop and pester me with
questions that I wasn't ready to answer. I desperately wanted to be alone so I
could read Steven's message but of course these things never go my way because
before I even got to open the exit doors, I was pulled by my arm to the side
near the lockers.
"What?!" My unexpected outburst shocked Wes as he let go of my arm
and stepped back a little.
"Where are you going? Class already started and I'm surprised you weren't
the first one there." He scrunched up his eyebrows in confusion. I didn't
explode but I did snap. My eye twitched and I clenched my hands at my sides
into fists, "Yes because I'm the good little nerd who does everything
right just like she's supposed to."
The look on his face quickly turned into anger, "What has gotten into you?
You've been acting like this ever since Saturday." I crossed my arms and
looked away. Thinking back to our previous conversations, I realized Steven was
right.
Baseball_player17: You should come over here, I
understand you...
Red_Lipstick16: I wish.
Baseball_player17: You know what I think?
Red_Lipstick16: What...?
Baseball_player17: I think that they just don't get you
like I do. They think you're someone you don't want to be & that's not
right. You should show them or tell them that that's not you or they'll never
take you seriously.
Thinking of Steven made me look at my phone and I mentally slapped
myself for forgetting about the unopened text message. I looked up at Wes who
seemed to be deep in thought and took this as my chance to escape.
I opened the exit door and
slipped out before Wes could chase me down which was fairly easy seeing as a
cheerleader decided to lock lips with him at that exact moment. Seems like luck
was finally on my side.
I felt jittery as I unlocked my phone and checked my messages to read his: Hey
gorgeous (; miss you...
My heart skipped a beat and I hastily replied back, I
am SO sorry about the other night, you have to understand that I didn't know my
brothers were going to come back early
I only had to wait a couple of minutes until he replied back with
a heart, a symbol that let me know I was forgiven, and my heart melted. I quickly
replied back with a heart of my own and couldn't help the cheesy grin that
appeared on my face. Steven always knew how to make me smile and feel better,
that's what I like most about him.
"Kassie?" I looked up from my phone and noticed the car that was
parked right in front of me. I couldn't see the person who was driving but the
voice was for sure not feminine.
"Uh, yeah?" I fidgeted with my phone, frustrated that I was yet again
interrupted. The person, man I'm assuming, threw something at me then sped
away.
Looking down I noticed it was a
brown package with my name on it, picking it up from the ground I made my way
home. The package was labeled with my name and address but no return address.
Huh, weird. It was light as a feather and I got an odd feeling about it.
Once inside my room, I set the package on my desk and stared at it, daring it
to move or open itself up on its own. My phone buzzed beside me and I answered
it without looking at the called ID. "Hello?"
"Hey Kass, you like my gift?" The butterflies came back, stronger
than ever and made it hard to breathe much less answer. I laid back on my bed
and relinquished the sound of his voice.
"So it was you who sent it? How'd you get my address?" He remained
silent and I used this time to try to calm my raging nerves but the nagging
feeling in the back of mind wouldn't go away. Something wasn't right, I just
wasn't sure.
"You told me, remember?" I scrunched up my eyebrows, I'm pretty sure
I never mentioned it. The weird feeling increased and my heart was pounding in
fear. I didn't understand, why was I feeling this way? It's Steven for God's
sake, I probably told him and I forgot about it.
"Oh, right! I remember now, what's in the package?" I could've sworn
I hear him slightly sigh in relief but then again it could've been anything.
"Why don't you open it sweetie." My shaking hands grabbed the package
from my desk and quickly opened it, my curiosity getting the best of me. I
pulled out the gift and I gasped, "I'm glad you like it." The beeping
noise flooded my ringing eardrums and I slowly put the phone down while I held
the short, skimpy, lingerie top in my other hand.
