Holy for Tonight

Holy for Tonight

A Poem by S. G. Keller

A young woman kneels in a sparsely furnished living room.
A grim news broadcast shines and illuminates her with its bleak blue glow.
She holds her hands together in front of her, a rosary clasped loosely between her fingers.
Her hands tremble and tears slip slowly down her face; her eyes are closed as she recites the Lord's prayer.
A Bible is open at her knees.
She takes one more shaking breath before the room is enveloped in the white glow of mutually assured destruction.

"It's gonna be a lonely night
It's gonna be a long and lonely night
Tomorrow is my last goodbye
So I'll be holy for tonight

It's gonna be a lonely night
It's gonna be the longest of my life
I might've told a million lies
But I'll be holy for tonight." - John Michael Osbourne, February 2020

Author's Note

S. G. Keller
This is what came to me as my first thought at the beginning of the COVID pandemic. It was inspired by the song Holy for Tonight, quoted at the bottom. My ex thought it was good, so I'm publishing it here.
