YEAH, IT'S JUST A LEGACY THING

YEAH, IT'S JUST A LEGACY THING

A Poem by R J Askew
"

On the nature of memory, experience, life lived. Written while in a state of the deepest despondency over a failing project, dust to dust. What is memory but a sort of dust in our minds?

"

Your mem'ry motes in sunrise thoughts

O how they float through morning minds

A face - you know the one - motes by

You smile, here, now, years on, you smile

O how you smile! Another mote...

A purple speck of love drifts by

But this? A mote of death, a face...

A shard of remembrance fresh cuts

You shy, a tear swell rimes your eye

You gaze anew into the motes

You see yourself a-looking back

A mote in other's fading minds

A settling sheet of nothingness

A film of fallen lifelessness

Bittersweet content here and you expressed it so familiarly. Lasting impressions are important after all, hmm? Nice piece!

Very impressing piece...it's all so graceful and delicate, like the illusion could shatter at any moment. The repetition of the mote gives it this quality I think, and the ending surely is breath-taking! "A settling sheet of nothingness
A film of fallen lifelessness"
Also it reads like so easily, so well-crafted in the flow. Thanks for sharing!

interestingly fallen; to take or capture stillness and contrast youth, beauty and the feminine creative force of life to death.

This is a powerful piece as we all can relate on some level. The emotions you place on paper come to life touching the heartstrings! The "word flow" made this write an even more pleasant experience! Thank you ~ Jude :-)

I liked this piece. Unfortunately, to think of myself as a mote in someone's memory 's a little depressing. Thank you for the share.

Indeed who cares, the descriptive nature of your prose however cathces the readers by the balls as it were and refuses to let go, a well written piece, good read.

Beautiful imagery of memory and its loss. How fleeting the sharpness of our minds!
