LONDON 2012 - the poem

LONDON 2012 - the poem

A Poem by R J Askew
"

To all who compete, all who watch.

"

.

YOUR GOLDEN DREAM

.

This is your moment in the sun

You've travelled far to live this now

To hit your personal best and how!

To make us one in peace and fun

.

O how you wave and give a bow!

The starter's gun is in the air

You are the one! you are the dare!

Now is your time to keep that vow

.

O how you fly with golden flair!

To show the world how swift you run

This race is yours, the gold is won

This victory .. is sweet and rare

.

O how we love your golden dream!

You are the one! we are the team

.

Your London poet will be there. I've seen the torch and am inspired by the spirit of the moment.

I took the pic of the torchbearer when the torch passed through my city a couple of weeks back. The torchbearer was actually smiling broadly as she passed, I just caught her between smiles.

This is amazing. You really embody the true spirit of the games here. Wonderfully and brilliantly written.

This should be printed on the back of the medal.

Liked the poem, I`m a Londoner and British too.
Just one small thought - I think the greatest achievements in life are the ones you manage yourself. I didn`t win anything, I just happen to come from one particular country. So, yes, we can celebrate, but perhaps spare a thought for thoses countries who don`t have much chance, and not forget that sport is a mega business based on making money.

Ach, my grammer came undone on the final bend there!
What a wonderfully GOLDEN POEM. Your words have really captured the pride and achievement for a sportsman or woman chosen to represent his/her country in the Olympic Games 2012.

You, LONDON Poet, have made me even more proud to be a Brit. The opening ceremony was 99% perfect .. and even the sun's trying to shine as golden as can be. Thank you for caring. The pic is great, by the way! I bet the torch bearer was amazingly proud at being selected.

Even these few words have a victorious touch, ' O how you wave and give a bow! '

Again, the London Poet has mingled with the crowds to express what we all feel.
Great to be in the same team as a winner. And Gold is what we all want, yet only 'the One' will get it. A universal sentiment with a poetic twist and perfect rhyme to match the occasion.

This is a very uplifting poem, in times of depression and recession, a glimmer of hope, to make us one in peace and fun. Love it! a truly Golden poem.
