Rainy Day

Rainy Day

A Poem by Hannah Erickson
"

Kind of wrote this one for myself actually

"

"Depression always hurts more in the morning," she said.
That's when you ask yourself why you have to wake.
But why must we wait to live?

Here's a moment
Candy-coated and sweet
You wrap it in silk
Save it for a rainy day
Only too late will you remember what it was
The sweetness will become bitter. So bitter.

Always living for tomorrows and yesterdays
Here's today
Don't be afraid
No need for preparation
No need for calculations

Let your hair down and seduce the wind
Go without shoes and let your body breathe
Write a sentence without punctuation
Save the judges' accusations for a rainy day. A rainy day.

Light bulbs know they may break  but they aren't afraid to give light a try
Our paths may be rocky and narrow but there is beauty along the way
And you are strong enough to travel those roads.
Once you open your eyes it won't be so hard.
Open just one lid
Let the firefly free
Follow him to the edges of a rainy day

Your grids and formulas- the ones you use for order-
Those are the monsters that hide under your bed.
Get a broom and sweep them out
You don't need them anymore

Think
Create
No boundaries
Imagine away the iron bars that hold you
Embrace the light instead

A deep, inteligent poem, Hannah. Words that I can relate too, also. Without going into details, I can say that your thoughts mirrored my own thoughts from nearly 30 years ago. A fine piece of writing.

Indeed. Control will never be safety. I love the reckless abandon in the authors voice letting me know she means to paint dreams all over the road.

This is the only place where my writing from high school still exists. A lot of it is embarrassing to adult me, but I'm not going to begrudge teenage me of her thoughts and feelings. I may add som.. more..
