Castles and Flowers

Castles and Flowers

A Poem by Hannah Erickson
"

Yet another writing from high school. I hope I'm not embarassing myself with those...

"

Every man's a castle.

He has his own little hideaways.

There are turrets and towers

Because he doesn't wish to be reached today.

With a heart made of stone

He sits there all alone-

Watches the fire burning.

He wishes he could jump in.

Maybe feel a little warmth again.

Every girl's a flower-

Delicate as they come.

She just wishes she could blossom-

Show that she hides her true beauty within,

But she's too afraid to get broken

Because then she may never grow.

She won't open up for anyone.

So, what's inside we'll never know.

We all build these walls around us

In hopes of keeping ourselves safe from harm,

But sometimes that's the greatest harm of them all.

Who's going to save you from yourself?

You may become your own worst enemy.

About
This is the only place where my writing from high school still exists. A lot of it is embarrassing to adult me, but I'm not going to begrudge teenage me of her thoughts and feelings. I may add som.. more..
