The Essence of TranquilityA Poem by Hannah EricksonNovember 6, 2006The ankle-deep water plays with the moldy shower curtain As I let the manufactured rain fall over my face. The roar of liquid trickling upon liquid forms a tranquil veil Between my one place for privacy and the periphery of reality. But soon the brigand will reach through the mists And steal away my moment of peace. I react with trepidation as water droplets slip past my towel And collide abruptly with the bathroom floor. The fog that masks the room augments every sound That presents itself to the world But I remain silent. There is some power in silence that too many disregard. It helps clear the mind of unnceccessary details And paves the way to self-discovery when accompanied by solitude. Both are something that I have been missing in my life as of late Thus, I have digressed in wisdom and seemingly rationality. It will take a torrid effort, But I will regain my ground. © 2008 Hannah EricksonReviews
