A Poem by Dean

I came to an existence hating every step,

Walking on shattered glass always seemed too sweet.

And I saw the thing, staring right at me,

Through the shards of open windows stood the enemy…

In her arms he slept and in her lap he played,

Off her heart he fed deeply but she kept her faith,

The enemy smiles and the enemy cries

I’m entrapped by this creature, is it wise?

He’s a child at heart and at soul no less,

He’s but an angel, an innocent success…

And his dad’s a soldier, he fights for the dark…

Demons and nightmares biting like sharks.

Poor little child came running in, sat in her lap and started crying,

Hovered in the corner for some time and patience,

Didn’t find much but he took a stance,

And walked slowly to his death.

And the enemy sits in her lap and plays

When the danger comes he lets her hide his face,

And I almost ripped him to shreds, nothing kept away,

But the voice of a guide ready to say

“I’m here, now little one, have no fear, the good in you will not disappear.”

And I will die for his right, he’s like my only son

And now I’m trapped in his arms such an innocent one,

Fighting for the strength he can have so that he could move on,

Now I wear a collar around my pale neck,

And he pulls me whichever way he pleases…

Poor babe, he’s afraid and he wants to play

Poor little one, I’ll be there.

The enemy’s young, not more than a child,

And his laughter and sunshine makes it worth the while,

Now every time she’s asleep,

Him and I go find what we need.
