Helping Me Help MyselfA Poem by R.E.K.Thank youThank you for helping me Help Myself For you can give a man a plane ticket And he can fly for a day, a couple hours But if you give him wings He can fly forever So there is such joy And such sorrow In knowing God granted only me The ability to help myself To travel into my mind To face my demons To hug my youth tight Endow me With the wisdom That pours from a fountain of Divinity inside me But I thank you For providing me With a guiding light A beam on places I needed to go You held the door open Let the portal become What it was destined to be And through this You have in many ways Helped me to heal me And that is the greatest gift Teaching me That I have the ability to come to terms with Not fix My present, past That it's okay to embrace everything I was To comfort the most wounded parts of myself To let them cry for a little while How to lead them, single file, to a world In which I am alone, and that's okay And you know? It even feels right, in a very strange way... So please let me say to you Thank you for Unfurling the wings You saw developing Inside this cacoon that is My soul, my memories For rearranging the pieces, into something Grounding They no longer float, and the lessons I have gleaned They guide me Ever present You represent The angel who shows man That imperfection Is a source of humor, joy, faith That though we cannot erase What has happened to us, what will We can ride the wave, not let it faze us, until It passes...the water calms and then We can laugh long and beautiful Prepare To do it all Again
