Music Does This

Music Does This

A Poem by R.E.K.

Music says
"Hello dear,
 Come away with me now."
Music does
What we fear
Opens up our hearts to
All the things we thought
We didn't want to feel again
It tells our darkest thoughts
That we wanted to forget

Music locks us up in the chords reply
Syllables stroke
Beyond our souls and minds
From the way our eyes grow larger
To the way we move our hands
I knew out of all the people
That you would understand
How music does this

And I said:
"Music does this to me,
I didn't mean to cry and call,
But somehow the melody takes me away,
 Rising notes are waterfalls,
Raining and rushing in my mind
Baby, don't you agree?
Music does this to me."

Music says
"Hello dear,
Come away with me now,"
Music does,
What we fear
Broken hearts and
Tender love in a dressing gown
And Music is
Colorful notes, stringing skin
And bone and sorrow,
Children and towns
Hypnotical call to
Our sins, our joys, our bred tomorrows

And music was
Smoothing lines in bearded fellows
And their plans
Music is a crazy, lively chorus
Trees swaying to the marching band
And music wands our form
From bulk, to feather, to fluid
Moves us in shapes we cannot know
And we go home
And we go home
Somehow
Music does this
