Don't Call Me ConformityA Poem by PatienceWrote this poem a few years ago for school. One of my favorite pieces.Look at all the cookie cutter families! Everyone is the exact same No mistakes, molding us Into an unyielding community
White house, black shutters Pickett fence surrounding my small yard Walking down my neighborhood Is like deja-vu all the time, they’re all like this.
Momma’s at home cooking and cleaning, Father is out working for the day. My older brother is doing homework. I refuse to be part of their “perfect family”
They yell when my music is too loud, They tell me it’s a corruption, a bad influence. My music is my religion, Elvis is my God. They don’t like it, why do they listen?
Why does everyone want me to change? Your hair is like Barbie’s, stuck in place Are my crazy creative clothes, And my colored hair too much for you?
I wasn't always like this I used to be the same as everyone I had the same clothes, the same shoes I was the perfect daughter.
I don’t need to be perfect to be loved Music loves me My friends love me, What else do I need, I am perfect.
Whether I am the same as you or not!
