blue blood

blue blood

A Poem by opossum

    Veins are the color of the sky;
    and the sea;
    and the sky reflecting in the sea.
    Hitler thought that he was send by God to cleanse the world of filth;
    And whoever had blue blood was clean.
    The heart is nothing but a muscle;
    That contracts and pushes in.
    I realize that the line between life and death is thin.
    I wonder what Hitler thought before he pulled the trigger.

    Did he cry? Did he cry? Did he cry?

    He was only a man after all.
    Meat and bones and a very steady heart that contracted and pushed in;
    To the rhythm of his soulmate’s pulse.

    Did he love? Did he love? Did he love?

    Maybe he loved pain.
    But who is to say that pain is not love .
    Abel loved his brother;
    Was Hitler blood of Cain?
    Did he ever think of ending his reign?

    Did he run? Did he run? Did he run?

    How long before he bled out?
    How long before his heart stopped?
    Did it stop?
    Did the bullet exit his body?
    I can hear his breath at night,
    Like I feel your heart beating with mine
    And I swear that the stars are the souls of all the people slain for his cause
    I would like to see the bullet that ended his life.

    Did he die? Did he die? Did he die?

    Maybe he is the moon;
    Hitler is not the moon;
    Maybe you are the moon.
    If you watch close enough you’ll see the sky contracting like a muscle.
    I wonder if Hitler could sleep.
    I wonder what he dreamt.
    I wonder if he heard screams.

    I wonder if he enjoyed them;
    but I like to believe he cried.
