Always with us...

If you have ever owned a pet

of any description

from a bird, dog, cat, rat,

mouse whatever.

You will realize how important

a member they are in your life

and a valuable part of your family.

And when sadly that day comes

to where you have to make that

very hard decision to put them down.

To stop them suffer any more stress,

pain and upset.

It can be one of the toughest moments

in anyone, life to let go of them.

And actually, to do it too.

No matter what anyone says.

And being there at the end.

Is beyond heartbreaking, to say the least.

But with a heavy heart and wonderful memories

you will always remember them with love,

sweet times shared and fondness that will

never die.

RIP Emily for you.

Always remembered always thought about.

Dawn -
Those who have never had a pet don't seem to know how much they become a part of the family. To grow up with them, have them grow up with you has be among the greatest joys. He is the brother that never fights with you, the friend that never gets angry or disagrees. Rain or shine he always greets you with his wagging tail and happy bark. He gladly eats the food you don't like on your plate that you "accidentally" let drop to the floor.

They never experience the heartbreak when you come to realize the pain and suffering that age has brought to them. The only humane thing to do is to relieve them of it. I know it is no where near the same, but it can't be too far distant from the angst a parent fears with the unexpected loss of a child.

As you beautifully point out, thank goodness the fond memories live on.

Tears are welling up in my eyes while reading this...it's bringing back memories for me...it's such a heartache having to say goodbye to a pet. I remember when I had to put my two dogs down a couple years ago due to them getting so old...they were with our family since I was young. Saying goodbye was not an easy thing to do...my sister gave my dad a portrait of our two dogs for Christmas and it made everyone smile. I still miss them everyday...but I know they'll always be with us...and glad to have been able to give them a long life worth living.

Thankfully, my brother bought himself a new puppy a few days ago, so my spirits have been brought up whenever he drops by. He's going to make him an emotional support animal and a new puppy is always good company! It helps me not think of our old dogs so much, but it's just a part of life, so with a passing of an old dog brings new opportunities for new puppies to bring around!

Emily past awhile back. But my dear friend her elderly cat is coming to that time of wanting to depart. And having to have a heart to heart with her tonight. Really got to me. I swear the cat knew we where talking about her. The look in the cats eyes. Of knowing and understand and not being upset or angry. Really got to me. Even though she is deaf. I know that sounds daft. But true. And like wise Coyote. Sorry for your loss of your beloved pets too. Dawn.
