When I was a kid, I always felt too precocious for my age, and wanted to grow up as soon as possible. I thought Peter Pan was a stupid character, but now that I'm a grown up, I understand its appeal. Good observational skills, Dawn...made me picture the innocent child quite vividly.
The sweetness of childhood never lasts as long as it should. It is a joy to watch little children in their innocense. You capture the child beautifully.
You are certainly right about us adults forgetting that innocent spirit of a child.
We let society's various worries bog us down to bitterness, jealousy, fear, envy and self-interest.
But hope is not lost. We can consciously awaken our inner child and become truly wonderful people in our relationships and daily interactions with others, whilst still, of course, aware of the realities of adulthood.
We must allow more playfulness and forgiveness in our lives..
Well done!

'Then we grow up - into adults and lose - that innocence - and sweetness - of the world - in general - and that is - so sad to me. '
Judging by what i see and hear - little children do things because they want to please, want to give and share smiles. But, as age takes control, so many do what they need to, for what's thought is deserved or what's thought to advantage selves. Yes, perhaps a cynical view of life but how truth smacks me in the eye. Not yet found that in a small child - may discover differently of course.
Meantime, bring me a clutch of buttercups and daisies!. Then, will willingly read and learn repeatedly from your wonderfully laid writing, Dawn. Sincerely and oh so graphically you've touched my heart and inspired me to think harder but - far less harshly.

Hi emmajoy, sorry for late reply. bless you for your thoughts, Dawn.
So true, so true Dawn. The sweetness of childhood seems to fade so quickly now. Our children are faced with a world that takes their innocence. The presentation of the little girl in your poem is enchanting. You describe her in such endearing detail. Your bolded verse and heartfelt plea at the end really touched my heart. Beautiful write.

Bless you Annette, you are a beautiful lady inside and out. Hugs, Dawn.
Great read, as always, Dawn, the innocence of youth, to be that age again, without the s**t and the bullshit, must be a joyous thing, but in the supermarket they are "Supermarket chaos", and you know what I mean.

Your poem sent me wandering Dawn. That lovely innocence, where does it go? I lost mine early enough. I picked flowers for my Nan who didn't have any from a neighbour's garden. I got a good whacking for that.
