Dolly

Dolly

A Poem by Onlyme
"

People who are described as 'the salt of the earth' are those who are considered to be of great worth and reliability.

"

She lives out in the countryside.
Her farm is isolated and she has a
few sheep and cows.
A farmers daughter she was from birth.

Most of her family are dead now.
She never married but decided to keep
the farm running as best she could at her mature age.

So that's why only a few cattle and sheep left.

She has no helpers and she does all the work
from dusk till dawn on her own.
Feeding her herd and taking them to the fields
as well as milking and shearing when needed
let alone taking to the market.

She is feisty, determined a hard worker
and weather-beaten, let alone tough.

Dolly is the salt of the earth kind of person.
You could not meet a better human being.

I would so love to meet your Dolly my friend. “Salt of the earth” people are worth more than gold. You beautifully describe her nurturing, caring and amazing strength. Yes, she shows her good breeding-a feisty farmer’s daughter who puts her farm and animals before herself. I know she would be so proud to know that you admire her and that you wrote this eloquent, heartfelt tribute about her. I think she would pause her work for a moment, and smile.

Now, this is the woman who should be going to the palace to get an award.
Though, she's probably to busy to go. The real people in Britain.

Can't disagree with you, Dawn.
She sounds very much like Hannah Hauxwell who too braved this kind of life..

To be honest, I was actually thinking of this lady when I wrote this Stella. Thanks for your thought.. read more
she reminds me of a character out of the movie Grapes of Wrath...
"I'll be there, Ma, yeah, I'll be there"

this makes me think of the way back days when things were much simpler...living off the earth...
farming...raising our own food...wonder what it would have been like to live back then.
