Dawn (the British philosopher),
The Hebrew Bible says, "Love others as yourself." I believe it is true that without a healthy dose of self-love we cannot truly love others. When we are without self-love, but full of self-loathing or even despair, we tend to see others as a reflection of ourselves. The "self souls" as you call them must constantly fool themselves into thinking they are the center of the universe.
I do appreciate you qualify self love as the mindful stewardship of our body, soul and spirit. Do no harm --- especially to yourself! When I see how people (some very beautiful, talented and creative people) destroy their lives in a grasping at things that have no real value to offer their lives, I grieve.
I appreciate that you use your poetry to explore the meaning of life on this crazy planet. A philosopher is a seeker of wisdom.

Self-love. It is sad that we have to be taught how to love ourselves. We are taught from an early age to dislike ourselves. I think that a lot of it may be rooted in misguided religion. I don't think that it is intentional, but as someone who has lived the majority of my life in a very religious home, I would have to say I know a lot of my dislike for myself has been related to what I perceived as "sin," and it has only been recently, when I embraced my nature, that I can love naturally love me for being who I am, without fear of what will be to come. Being able to value oneself is truly a gift. One given to me by a friend. Someone who cared enough to push me in the right direction. I'll be forever grateful for that push. -M

I know what you mean about misguided religion casting doubt upon someone's perception of sin. And making them believe it its true. Maybe in reality it's actually not. It just they upbringing in the church giving them that illusion. Exactly learning to love who you are for you. None of us are perfect we all have flaws. But we also need to love and like ourselves to grow and learn. And be happy. It sounds like you a great friend who help you a lot. A true friend who had your interest at heart. That is lovely to hear Margie. Dawn.
you bring me back with this one....the before "me"---when I tried to please others rather than myself...wanted to fit in...did everything to do that...but then i had an epiphany....it wasn't working and those I tried to please all didn't feel the same way about things...i said , screw this...i am just going to live as i see fit....actually found more friends that way.
