Love Always...

Love Always...

A Poem by Onlyme

He looked at the watch
he had on his left wrist
and the memories
came flooding back to him.

To the very day
his Grandfather showed him it.
A very long time ago.

When he was just a lad.
And said "One day this will be yours.
When I am long gone".

And sadly his words came true.
A few weeks ago.
As his Grandfather passed away
suddenly after a
short spell of being ill.

It was his Grandfathers
pride and joy.
It was a family
heirloom.
Passed down
from generation to generation.

And now he owned it.

He felt his warm tears
fall from his eyes.
And he wiped his grieve and smile and said
out loud.

"Papa, I will never forget you.
and I will do you proud with this great gift
you bestowed on me. Love you always Danny
your grandson.

And walked into the dining area
of his house to get ready for dinner
with his own family now.

As his own young son. Sat across from
him in his high chair giggling away and
smiling at him.
His heart bursting with pride and thinking
of his papa too.

A moving, bittersweet piece. Has the sound of real life to it, though it could be fiction. Too many once precious heirlooms end up in antique shops.

PS: in the first line of the next to last verse, did you mean "dining area?" Spellings can vary between US and UK.
