Not dead Yet!

Not dead Yet!

A Poem by Onlyme

The terminal ill soul
does not want pity or
your apologies at how
sick they have become.

They want dignity, respect
and love with compansion
and honesty held within a
good true friendship.

They want laughter, smiles
and someone they can really
talk to.

Don't treat them like a child.
Who does not know anything?
As they do. They are not daft.

Just being there and caring but
also not judging and demanding
anything from them.

But taking their pace and helping
when you can. Goes a long way.

They are not dead yet.
So live life for now.
And no tears shredded yet.

Just smiles and good memories
made.

Good job here Dawn. we all must deal with old friends and relatives facing their last days. It is hard sometimes to spend time with them, but we must comfort them. You make some really good points on how to be helpful. I stumbled over a few lines. Consider line changes. (Line 12, 13, 14) "... child/who does not know reality/as ...." Also (Line 18, 19) "But follow their pace and help/ in simple ways to show you care." (Line 22) "And save the tears for later." Enjoyed reading it.
